they bring more inspiration

You may remember the inspiring people I shared with you a few weeks ago. When these beautiful people were with us, I had asked if they'd brave the face of a video camera to share their experience with others. Brave they did. I am beyond thankful for their willingness, not just because we hope this inspires others to be involved in what God is doing at/through Whisper Mountain, but because my heart was touched through their perspective. You've no idea how encouraged we are when others find a passion for this ministry God is building and using to reach people for Christ.

Take a look-see!

Aren't they inspiring? May we each go find someone to share our time, energies and talents with!

Trail Mix // Episode 09

After six months of running from the video camera, Dennis got brave! While serving with us this summer, he pushed through a few minutes of awkward and uncomfortable as he sat in front of his computer to share encouragement with us! I'm thankful for his timely message. I pray the experience he shares (in true Dennis fashion!) blesses you where you are right now!

Don't you love how even a bird with attitude can point us to our loving Daddy in Heaven?

May you find His personal touch evidenced today! Blessings to you friends!

Awesomeness Takes the Stage // Chelsea

I always joke that Chelsea is my Selah all grown up! They are very similar…sweetness and shining smiles being strong suits! In her second summer with us, Chelsea:

Chelsea-3{photo by Charley}

// consistently offers a contagious smile to everyone //

Chelsea-5// isn't afraid to hold a hand and plunge into life with others //

Chelsea-6// is on the brink of a teaching career //

Chelsea-2// graces the stage with the Bros on Ice band //

Chelsea-4// clings to Jesus while embracing her life adventure (with a smile) //

Chelsea-1// connects intentionally with people regularly :: inspiring //

Chelsea-7// refreshes those she spends any amount of time with //

Cassi: What is your favorite verse?

Chelsea: Well, I go in phases, but right now it's Ephesians 6:19-21 "Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should."

Cassi: Why did you want to be a guide this summer?

Chelsea: I really felt like God used me a lot last summer and when I had the chance to do it this summer too, I was like yes, I want to be used again!

Cassi: What do you want to be when you grow up?

Chelsea: (squinting her eyes in happiness like she always does) A TEACHerrr!

Cassi: Is there anything the WM friends can be praying for you about?

Chelsea: that I continue to make God my #1 priority so I can glorify God in all I do, especially this next semester with all the busyness and all.

If anyone has a tenderness to God's Spirit, it's Chelsea Starr! She takes seriously her call as a Christian to disciple and battle in prayer for many who are in need of God's miracle working power! She dedicates mass amounts of energy and time and heart pouring into others, offering wisdom or simply a listening ear! She's also very accident prone which makes me laugh (in a loving way!)…so much like my Selah! Truly, I haven't met anyone that doesn't like to be with her! She's the refreshment I believe God wants us all to offer to those in our world! I'm encouraged and inspired by this girl!

May we be intentional to give off the aroma joy to someone today! Everyday life can really stink!

Awesomeness Takes the Stage // Chris

Chris-3// is an approachable and likeable guy //

Chris-2// displays great leadership and connects well with the campers //

Chris-1// helps to lead campers in worship each week //

Chris-4// is a beast in the outdoor adventure department //

Chris-6// tends to be a goofball //

Chris-7// is soaring to new heights in his walk with Christ //

Chris-8// is a founder of the bros on ice band //

Chris-9// smiles in the rain //

A-peek-insideCassi: What's your favorite verse?

Chris: I gotta look it up. (two weeks later…)

Cassi: Why did you want to be a Guide this summer?

Chris: I really want to pour into younger people. I don't know. For me, investing in people and building relationships is really a big deal.

Cassi: What do you want to be when you grow up?

Chris: (With a grin, yet in all seriousness) not homeless

Cassi: Do you have anything you want WM friends to pray for?

Chris: I had a rough last semester so as I go back to school I hope to have a better year. And that I'll be able to build relationships at App (Appalachian State University in Boone, NC) and stuff like that.

Chris is a fairly new believer, but is growing stronger in His walk and helping others to do the same! He definitely wears "good guy" comfortably. Though he can be quiet, he is pretty open to getting to know anyone who'll take the time for it and is willing to put forth such an effort regularly! He brings great humor to the mix of things and is willing to do what needs doing! I have enjoyed his fun, easy going personality this summer! He definitely adds strength to the team!

Let's bring our best to this day, shall we? People could use it! And we'll be cheerier for it!

Awesomeness Takes the Stage // Charley

Charley left her mark with us when she came as a camper last year! She:

Charley-5// is one of the three girl GIT's (Guides In Training) with us this summer //

Charley-2// is Captain America's wife //

Charley-1// helps lead our campers in worship each week //

Charley-3// graces the stage with the Bros on Ice Band at WM //

Charley-4// enjoys capturing memories behind and in front of the camera //

Charley-6// takes the investment she's received and pours into others //

Charley-7// allows adversity to shape her into God's tool of beauty //
Cassi: What is your favorite verse?

Charley: Song of Songs 4:7 "You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you."

Cassi: Why did you want to be a GIT with us this summer?

Charley: Chelsea poured a lot into me after last summer and I felt called to come serve this summer. It was definitely a God call.

Cassi: What do you want to be when you grow up?

Charley: I want be in music ministry or maybe start a ministry after I attend Oral Roberts and hopefully do mission work with it (with a grin and a giggle she added: with a husband!)

Cassi: What can WM friends pray for you about?

Charley: That I would be obedient after summer to do what God calls me to, whether in music or whatever, that I will follow the plans the Lord has for me.

Charley is someone who is quite adorable. I find her to be careful with her words and actions, and a girl whose learning to embrace all God has created her to be. She shines the most when behind her guitar or the keyboard, her unique voice engaging the listener instantly. I have been blessed by her help in using her growing talent of photography to help capture the week for campers! She soaks up life and all it offers and bleeds that life onto those she surrounds herself with. In whatever Charley does, she is meeting success, I believe because she's figuring out that the more she leans into Christ, the more she glorifies and becomes like Him!

May we each be encouraged to lean into Jesus a little more today!

Awesomeness Takes the Stage // Kaleigh

Kaleigh came with a work team last year and we were thrilled she wanted to come as a Guide this summer! Kaleigh drips with sweetness and fun! She:Kaleigh-2// has the perfect balance of beautiful and sweet… //

Kaleigh-1// …dorky and fun //

Kaleigh-3// is quite humble which means her gifts and talents are constantly being discovered! //

Kaleigh-4// is a member of the bros on ice band //

Kaleigh-8// is a professional photo bomber //

Kaleigh-7// is big hearted and compassionate //

Kaleigh-6// makes a stranger into a friend //

Kaleigh-5// pursues peace in all things //

Cassi: What is your favorite verse?

Kaleigh: Acts 20:22-24 "And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me–the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace."

Cassi: Why did you want to be a Guide this summer?

Kaleigh: I was looking to do a couple things this summer, but God seemed to close the door. I was part of a prayer group at school and there were several people that night sharing how they wished they could be a camp counselor but they couldn't find a position available. When I got home that night, Shaun called to see if I'd be interested in being a Guide at Whisper Mountain. The door seemed open to come here.

Cassi: What do you want to be when you grow up?

Kaleigh: My main goal is to work with orphans or cancer kids.

Cassi: Do you have have anything you'd like the WM friends to pray for?

Kaleigh: Just knowing what to do with my life and all the college decisions I need to make

Dot-bannerKaleigh can be quiet and observing or right there in the midst of the craziness. I have been blessed by her sweet and gentle spirit, her desire to please God in all things, her constant smile, and her silliness! I'm thankful God opened the door for her to serve with us this summer. Her connection with the teens is consistently strong. I have gotten to see God use her in many ways as she continually and patiently submits to Him! Beautiful and inspiring…Kaleigh in a nutshell!

May you find ways to be a blessing to someone today!

Awesomeness Takes the Stage // Aaron

We were thrilled when we heard Aaron wanted to come back for another summer with us! Now in his third summer at Whisper Mountain, we are blessed by what Aaron brings to the team! He:

Aaron-arrival// enjoyed being showered with some love upon arrival //

Aaron-and-tegan// is talked about and missed by my little man all year long //

Yellow-shades// loves yellow and rap music (which brings energy to the scene!) //

Aaron-hang10// is a man of encouragement, sincerity, and humility //

Aaron-cupcakes// has a slight addiction to WM's strawberry cupcakes //

Aaron-kayak// excels in leading outdoor activities at camp //

Aaron-bros-on-ice// is a member of Summer 2012 Bros on Ice Band! //

Hey-bag// anticipates serving campers each week with passion //

Aaron-sleeping// wears himself out shining Jesus //

Peek inside

Cassi: What is your favorite verse?

Aaron: (without hesitation!) Lamentations 3:24 "'The Lord is my portion,' says my soul, 'Therefore I have hope in Him.'”

Cassi: Why did you want to return again as a Guide?

Aaron: I love Whisper Mountain and it was an opportunity to connect with people and with God.

Cassi: (anticipating what I already think the answer is) When you grow up, what do you want to be?

Aaron: (as if in answer to my head thoughts) well, I do want to write, BUT I really want to be a man of God in whatever I do (wasn't anticipating that awesomeness!)

Cassi: (whoa, he's so on track. I love that!) What can friends of WM pray for?

Aaron: (without hesitation again) that I would hunger and thirst for righteousness

Though it could be portrayed that Aaron is just so spiritual, I would like to clarify that Aaron is the most sincere, humble, in-love-with-Jesus young man I know. He often challenges me (without knowing it!) to keep my heart in check, to be sensitive to God's leading, to be ALL about seeking God, living for God and loving others well. He's an all around enjoyable person to be with! I'm thankful Aaron's with us again, stepping up in greater leadership and bringing God glory in all he does!

May you be challenged to follow God so passionately! Blessings on your Friday!

Awesomeness Takes the Stage // Hope

Oh, how does one contain all of Hope in a small blog post? Nearly impossible, but let's try to catch a glimpse of her awesomeness!

We first encountered Hope when she came as a camper two years ago! Hope:

Hope-1// is forever remembered as Tegan's very first camp girlfriend //

Hope-2// greets the ups and downs of life with optimism and a great attitude //

Hope-6// is the onsite hair stylist //

Hope-7// welcomes adventure every chance she gets //

Hope-3// makes for a super fun dork //

Hope-4// is a member of the infamous Bros on Ice band at WM //

Hope-5// has found a partner in crime while on staff //

Hope-8{this photo taken by kaleigh!}

// has a growing love for her Jesus that causes her to live on mission! //

A-peek-insideCassi: What's your favorite verse?

HOPE: Isaiah 40:28-29 "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak."

Cassi: Why did you want to be a GIT this summer?

HOPE: I wanted to grow spiritually and (with a big smile) also have a fun adventure!

Cassi: What do you want to be when you grow up?

HOPE: a baker (said with a cute little shrug!)

Cassi: (her baking is fantabulous! When I picked her up at the airport she had a tupperware of yumminess to share! she wins my heart!) What can WM friends be in prayer for you about?

HOPE: just my parents.

Hope is all about the fun and adventure, but what I love to catch glimpses of is her tender heart and growing passion for Christ! Like many of us, Hope doesn't always allow the inside stuff to show, but I've caught glimpses of her heart when she thought no one was watching and I'm encouraged by her strength and resolve to strive for Christ in every circumstance. God is doing great things in Hope! Doesn't He do that in all of us who are willing to be worked on?! Awesomeness to you today, friends!

Christmas in May

After being at the GIC Conference in February, one special group of people had a heart to help WM in whatever way they could. With the list of our household and pantry needs in hand, this group of people filled a car full (and then some) of practical needs (like TP!) and sent Driver Bob to bless us. Feels like Christmas in May!Christmas in may

Christmas in may 2Being missionary staff means we don't always know how we will be provided for, though we are confident God does provide! We've seen Him, on countless occasions, give toward our needs often using complete strangers. From tennis shoes and flip flops (in just the right sizes!) to Wendy's or Ingles gift cards to the bigger things like vehicles, we get taken care of…in His timeline! He does it through both the oblivious and the intentional people alike.

If you are awaiting God's provision, don't lose heart. He sees your need and is in process! If you are stressing about a need, stop twirling in anxious circles, lay your burden down in the hands of a trustworthy God, and rest! He's going to rock your socks off!

building more than a deck

Whisper mounain deck build1With these guys at camp all week, we've been able to build the deck up by the cabins. Campers will now have a place to sit and relax (other than the bathhouse porch!!), meet in small groups, and more during their stay with us.

Whisper mountain deck build4Don and Richard (and their wives whom you shall meet soon!) have done more than just help build the deck. They have blessed us with their fellowship and spirit-filled service! One of my favorite parts of camp ministry is the relationships that are built, the constant connecting and reconnecting with people who share the heart of finding God and volunteer their time, energy, skill, and finances investing with us to that end! (even if it puts me in the kitchen too often:)!!!) God's economy is all about community! And a Whisper Mountain community is being built with many, many people!
